Hi, I’m Mark and I’m the manager at our church's café (Café 139). I have attended Cornerstone Church since I was young and recently got married to Anna. I enjoy reading fantasy, history & theology, as well as watching & playing football. I became a Christian when I was twelve years old at a Christian Summer Camp. One night in a tent when it was cold and dark I knew I had to make a decision based on what I believed: it was either Jesus or no Jesus in my life. I chose Jesus. How could I not if this was true? I was told that he died in my place because of my rebellion against God and rose from the dead so that I would be accepted by God into His family – quite staggering!
Though I believed all this, I’m not really sure I took it seriously at school. That was until I got into history, and I was taught to look at things critically, analysing everything applying logic and reason - which ultimately turned me overly sceptical in many ways! I did my degree in History at Huddersfield and my MA at Leeds. By then I took an interest in the historical reliability of Jesus and knew that if Jesus really had lived and done what the Bible claimed he did then history should be able to tell me whether this was the case. Surprisingly I found the evidence for Jesus was not based on some Da Vinci Code conspiracy, twisted legend, or mass hallucination! From a historical viewpoint I believe the best explanation for who Jesus is and what he has done are the facts contained in the Bible.
Christianity stands or falls on the resurrection – something the Bible itself makes clear! If Jesus rose from the dead, what are the consequences? Perhaps you couldn’t care less, perhaps you are vehemently opposed, or perhaps it’s something you want to explore. At the very least Jesus and his resurrection should pique your interest. If this is the case I’d be happy to talk to you.
MY QUESTION TO YOU: Is everything you think you know about Jesus and the Bible based on your own investigation or based on hear-say handed down to you by friends, family and the media?
